Bio

Tyler Douglas Porter was born on August 12th, 1989 in Roseville, California. He then moved to Washington, next to Oregon, and finally to Idaho where his family decided to settle down.  He is the oldest child in a family of eight. As a child, he grew up with a tremendous love for sports. Baseball was by far his favorite. Most of his childhood was centered around sports.

Tyler attended high school at Hillcrest High School in Idaho Falls, Idaho from 2004-2007. This is about the time his passion for photography and film started to take place. He took multiple photography classes, and later joined his school’s morning news team. He quickly fell in love with film making, and all the different aspects that went into it. Tyler and his friends would always take a video camera wherever they went, and would record all their different adventures that happened in their lives.

Between his junior and senior year of high school, Tyler attended a screening for a documentary by the name of Invisible Children: Rough Cut. The documentary is about a war that has been happening in Northern Uganda over the past 23 years. Read more about the history of the war in Northern Uganda. This was a huge turning point in his life, completely shifting his point of view on the world. He also wanted to use his talents to help others in need, and ultimately make the world a better place to live in. He wanted to achieve this through something he loved, and the same way the three guys from Invisible Children did: through film. This started Tyler’s obsession with the African culture, and the African people.

Tyler attended college at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida.  He started in February 2008 and earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Film, graduating in October of 2009. With this degree, he hopes to help spread a positive message around the world. He currently has a few different projects in the works, and hopes to institute them as soon as he possibly can.

One of Tyler’s main goals in life is to travel to Africa and to help with whatever he possibly can. He wants to leave an impact on this world, and dedicate his life towards helping those in need.

Albert Einstein once said, “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.”
